Super Snacks for Big Game Viewing Parties
Wings and chips are often the stars of the show when it comes to big game viewing parties. But for those who want to elevate their snack spread this year, Sphinx Date Co. has some super ideas!
For big game hosts, the menu can be one of the most stressful and time-consuming parts of the event. But remember that the best parties are the ones that are casual, comfortable — and that the host enjoys too! So rather than spending the entire first half in the kitchen, think about a menu of snackable items that encourages guests to help themselves at any time throughout the game.
When it comes to the spread theme, the best football watching snacks offer a little something of everything — salty, crunchy, chewy, savory and sweet. Need some ideas? Here are some easy ways to satisfy the big game crowd:
Individual Greek yogurt cups served two ways — Use Greek yogurt as a base for a classic ranch dip, onion dip, or dill dip (dry powdered dip mixes are perfect for this) or simply mix in a bit of olive oil, lemon juice, and herbs. Then dip in some carrots, cucumber, broccoli florets or a few mini pretzel sticks. For a sweet option, blend Greek yogurt and honey, then place a few halved dates in the cup for a portable sweet treat that is still wholesome and nutritious.
Savory and sweet skewers — Skewers are the perfect finger food that doesn’t leave guests with sticky or greasy fingers! Plus, they are totally customizable. For example, alternate hard cheese squares, salami or prosciutto and olives, or use sliced bananas, pineapple, strawberries, and grapes for a sweet Football dates — Slice open fresh dates and pit them. Then form each date half into a football shape. Top with nut butter of choice and then cover with dark chocolate melts. Once hardened, pipe melted white chocolate to “stitch” on the football “laces.”
Roasted nuts and seeds — Roasting nuts and seeds gives them a rich, complex flavor. Add some seasonings or even a bit of maple syrup to level up those flavors. Upon roasting, popcorn, cereal such as Chex and even some dark chocolate chips can be tossed in for a hearty, sweet and salty mix that guests will scarf down by the handful.
Buffalo chicken dip — In place of wings, how about a crave-worthy buffalo chicken dip that can be tossed into a crock pot and kept warm throughout the entire game! Simply toss rotisserie chicken pieces, ranch, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, some cream cheese and buffalo wing sauce into a crock pot and set to low. The ingredient ratio can be eyeballed and adjusted as needed. Stir occasionally, allowing the ingredients to melt and meld together—season as needed. Serve with carrot and celery sticks and tortilla chips.
Regardless of what is served on big game Sunday, keep the vibe casual, the effort low-key, and the energy high! Need some provisions for hosting? Swing by the Palm & Pantry and pick up some delicious items to serve on any occasion!
