Planning a Picnic featuring Arizona-Grown Goodies

As Phoenix’s weather continues to show off with sunny skies and spring-like temperatures, why not take advantage of the great outdoors!? Those that enjoy walking, hiking, jogging, or biking can hit the trails, and then enjoy a picnic featuring Arizona-curated goodies! Sphinx Date Co. offers a few suggestions for planning the perfect picnic, day or night!

Timing is Everything — A picnic doesn’t just have to be sandwiches at lunchtime. Consider an early morning picnic featuring breakfast burritos, fresh fruit with coffee or mimosas. For a mid-afternoon picnic, a charcuterie board and a bottle of wine will do the trick. And for after-dark picnickers, pack some chocolate-covered treats (and a few blankets to cuddle up in!). Any time of day, a picnic can be a fun way to enjoy someone’s company outdoors or to dial up the romance in the name of Valentine’s Day (a birthday, anniversary or any other celebration).

Pack it Up — A simple picnic can be one of life’s greatest pleasures. Getting together with a loved one or friends to take in the beautiful weather and enjoying some great snacks — what could be better? When planning a picnic, don’t forget a few essentials (besides the food!): a large blanket to spread out, trash bag to collect and pack out the picnic remains, utensils, glass wear (don’t forget the wine opener!), plates and napkins, and picnic trays for displaying the spread (and keeping it safe from ants and other uninvited picnic guests).

Select a Menu — After choosing what time of day to have the picnic, planning the menu is the next step. An early morning picnic could include a pre-made (and sliced) quiche, croissants with yummy spreads, fresh fruit (pre-sliced for ease and convenience), bagels and cream cheese, or pre-made yogurt parfaits packed in mason jars. A charcuterie board is perfect for nearly any time of day, and it’s so easy to put together and customize one. Think a selection of meats (salamis, prosciutto, pepperoni, etc.), cheeses (brie, goat cheese, cubes of cheddar or Swiss, etc.), olives, nuts (such as Arizona grown pistachios and pecans!), jams or thick, seedy mustards, dried fruits and crackers or a loaf of crusty bread. A dessert-themed picnic could include all kinds of sweet delights such as chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate-dipped dates, macarons and more.
