A soft and sticky date, Maktoom Dates are an heirloom variety brought to the valley from the middle east in about 1910. Janna from Pinnacle Farms rescued the remaining 11 trees that she inherited when acquiring the West Valley property. Working to preserve the Maktoom variety, Janna is now raising pups on her 47-acre farm located at the base of South Mountain. Pinnacle Farms focuses on the preservation of unique desert varieties and sustainable vegetable farming. The now rare Maktoom Dates are considered one of the best soft date varieties from the Baghdad region. Similar to Medjool Dates in size and flavor, Maktoom Dates are softer and best eaten when freshly harvested. The large size, flavor, texture and richness of this unique variety is unmatched.
