10 Years of Lessons at Sphinx

Sphinx Date Co. Co-Owner Rebecca Seitz Shares Business Tips She’s Learned in the Past 10 Years

Throughout 2022, Sharyn and Rebecca Seitz, mother-daughter business partners and co-owners of Sphinx Date Co., are celebrating 10 years of ownership since they took over the company in 2012. With this milestone, Rebecca shares tips on how companies can remain on the cutting edge of their industries.

Rebecca notes she has seen industry changes in a multitude of categories including date popularity and availability, economic, political and social environments, support for local or artisan produced items and retail food trends.

Deliver Quality — Regardless of the industry, Rebecca says that staying committed to delivering a quality product is No. 1. There will always be competition in any market, so it’s vital to present the best product possible.

Embrace the Local Market — Though large corporations entering the date industry have made it challenging for small, independently or family run farms, Rebecca says embracing the local market and supporting small business is another key to long-term success. With the rise of initiatives like those of Local First Arizona or American Express’ Shop Small campaign, consumers have gotten the message on the value of spending their money with local businesses and interest has increased for small and artisan brands. Reaching that market is vital for small businesses looking to grow their brands and established companies that want to hit new and different demographics. It’s also important for businesses not only to establish themselves within the local consumer market but also to choose local as well. Working with other local vendors can help create a network of supporting one another in any one market.

Get Social — Rebecca adds that the presence of social media over the past several years has given smaller brands a platform, voice and marketing potential, made customers feel comfortable shopping for food online. She encourages businesses to leverage social media platforms to connect with new clientele around the world and to build a more widespread consumer network.

Whether a new start up, small business or company that has been around for years, it’s always important to stay in the loop in on the pertinent industry. This can give business owners an edge and help them connect with their consumers, whether local or from around the globe!
